Susan Berks - Owner and Chef of Green Bean Catering

Cooking, baking and riding horses have always been my passions since I was a little girl and I have continued them all now for more than 30 years.

Having gone straight from school to a private residential 'cordon bleu' college, my first step into the world of Private Catering was living on a 2000 acre stud farm in Sussex as the private chef and also catering for the frequent weekend house- parties for racehorse owners and trainers. These were particularly fond memories for me as I was also allowed to ride some amazing horses including a Grand National Winner. I then moved on to Kings School Canterbury , living literally next door to the cathedral, at the headmasters house ,where I spent the next few years cooking for Lord Pilkington and various other church dignitaries and politicians.

I have always enjoyed cooking for parties and there is nothing more satisfying than seeing hosts and guests enthuse about the dishes that you have presented them with, so when I then had a young family to bring up and horses and dogs to look after, the obvious choice was to go freelance which I have continued to do until the present time.

From Directors lunches in the West End of London for companies such as Price Waterhouse , outside catering for private functions, weddings, funerals and barbeques; I have many testimonials from happy clients who appreciate the personal attention I give to each and every event and they have returned year after year for annual functions such as Jazz Festivals and NSPCC dinner dances.

Now , this year, with my partner Tim we have created The Green Bean Catering Company and are now able to offer an even better bespoke service which can include marquees of any size, bars, dance floors and entertainment to suit any occasion.

We have included some menus on the website to give an idea of the style of food we can provide, although we are always ready to adapt to suit any occasion.
